Angela Marsden hit unintended fame when she taped a video about the unjust policies of California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti that closed her outdoor dining area down but then allowed NBC to set up a large outdoor dining area for a film crew 20 feet away from her patio.
After the video went viral on social media, it was quickly picked up by mainstream media outlets. This resulted in a major outpouring of support and a Go Fund Me account set up to help save her pub, the Pineapple Hill Saloon and Grill in Sherman Oaks California. While it asked for $10,000 to help the saloon at least stay open for take out orders during the never ending lockdown of restaurants in California, it has currently raised over $200k.
In our interview, Angela thanks the worldwide community and says her and her staff have been given a “Christmas Miracle.” The restaurant is reopening for takeout as of Sunday November 20th. Angela notes that while she is not allowed to open her patio, that people from the In n Out Burger next door are ordering their food and then eating it on her patio.
She has decorated the patio dining area for Christmas and invites people to come to the saloon, order their to go food and then feel free to eat it on her patio should they desire.
“We have been shutdown and the numbers continue to grow,” Angela said. “61% of businesses have said they won’t be able to reopen. We are headed for an economic crash worse than the Great Depression. It’s a crime.”
After seeing the damage his policies have done to so many businesses like hers, Angela says she supports the effort to recall Governor Newsom. She has a message for both Garcetti and Newsom: “We’re working to get the truth out. We won’t stop talking. We need leaders that work for the people and aren’t here to line their own pockets.”
