Annie Leibovitz at Book Soup in West Hollywood
Anyone who thinks the digital world has replaced print hasn’t been to a good bookstore… particularly Book Soup in West Hollywood. There is something about a shop full of books that is just one of those experiences you want in life. And the feel of an iPad in your hands will never replace that of a good hard cover book printed on quality paper. I feel this is even more true when it comes to photographs, but that is the subject of another post.

Speaking of photography, I “happened” to end up at Book Soup on the day the celebrated photographer Annie Leibovitz was there signing copies of her book, “Annie Leibovitz at Work”. The best selling book was originally published in 2008. The edition she was signing was recently revised and brought back into print.
Having read the original, I can highly recommend it for any level of photographer. Annie teachs you respect for the profession, the importance of the work photographers are doing and shares a decidedly unique approach to how to conduct a successful photoshoot.
Book Soup, “Bookseller to the Great and Infamous” is located at 8818 Sunset Blvd in West Hollywood. The shop routinely hosts author talks and book signings. Visit their website for a listing of events. And if you haven’t read a book in a while, stop in and browse the many interesting titles on the shelves… and take one home with you. You’ll be surprised to realize how much more rewarding a good book is than your Facebook feed! Honestly!
Now that I have you sold on how cool it is to read a book, you might also want to check out The Last Bookstore in downtown Los Angeles, which is so impressive it has become an LA tourist attraction, or Skylight Books in Los Feliz.
