Artists and Fleas, Venice
When I walked into the Artists and Fleas Marketplace in Venice for the first time I was immediately struck with how different it is from other open air markets I’ve gone to.
The keywords here are quality, uniqueness and presentation. All of the goods sold in the market are high quality hand made products that have been very attractively packaged and then displayed on attractive displays.
This isn’t to say you won’t find other open air markets with high quality handmade goods. But the products sold at Artists and Fleas in Venice raise the bar a bit higher. That’s been the mission of Artists and Fleas since it started back in New York City: to deliver ever-evolving and extraordinary shopping experiences. The vendors seem to be carefully “curated” to be among the best.
The Artists and Fleas market in Venice had roughly 50 vendors and a number of food trucks. Everyone was extremely friendly and the whole experience was enjoyable. And if you somehow don’t find what you are looking for there, just stroll on down Abbot Kinney Blvd and check out the unique shops there.
If you’ve ever felt a little angry reading how corporations like Amazon just extracted millions of dollars in subsidies from taxpayers, to build a new corporate campus where workers will be paid less than it costs to live in the area while paying zero dollars in taxes themselves this is your way to fight back. Support the small and local merchants that are putting quality and love into their every product. It is after all these very small businesses that are the backbone of America.
You can shop for handmade artisan goods every Saturday from 11 – 5 at 1010 Abbot Kinney Blvd. It’s on the Grounds of the Westminster Avenue Elementary School.
Share this with your friends to they can find cool stuff too!
