Best Place to Play Basketball in Los Angeles
Hands down, the best place to play basketball in Los Angeles is… well, it’s in San Pedro. And actually that is in Los Angeles. San Pedro, while once a separate city, incorporated into Los Angeles way back in 1909.
As you can see in the pictures, the backdrop for this awesome basketball court is the Pacific Ocean and as beautiful as it is, you don’t want to overshoot the backstop by too much. As close as it looks, the ocean is a long way down.
This outdoor basketball court is the only one I have seen that is directly overlooking the ocean. It’s located in Angel’s Gate Park, along with the Korean Bell of Friendship and some of the most beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean and the LA and Long Beach Harbors to be had. The park is a bit on the small side compared to many of the large parks in Los Angeles, but with the magnitude of the ocean and harbor views and the beauty of the Bell, I would have to say it is in the running to be nominated the best park on Los Angeles.
It’s totally worth the drive out there to play on this court. Once the game is done, you can head on over to the lighthouse at Point Fermin Park, stop by the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, swing by the Fort MacArthur Museum, or shop and dine at the Ports of Call Village. It’s also not far from the Point Vicente Lighthouse & The Interpretive Center Museum. And that’s just for starters. There is so much to do in that area you can’t get to it all in a day.
Want to go? It’s at 3601 S. Gaffey, San Pedro.
