Featured Business: Samy’s Camera

Hands down, Samy’s Camera on Fairfax is probably my favorite store in LA.

This is my 3rd time living in Los Angeles.  Between times I was living in Denver and I can’t tell you what a liability it is to be working as a professional commercial photographer in a market that doesn’t have any camera stores geared toward pros.  If I needed a specific piece of gear for a photoshoot, I had to order it out of LA or NYC.

So much for those last minute photo gear needs!  The entire 4th floor of Samy’s on Fairfax is pro only.  Pro video cameras such as the Red, medium format DSLRs by Hasselblad and Phase One, lighting by Profoto and Broncolor.  Every conceivable type of clamp, bracket, boom arm etc.

The staff here is very service oriented, and most of the time when I walk in I’m greeted by name.

Of course they also cater to amateur photographers and camera enthusiasts. Basic and prosumer level cameras and camcorders are on the other floors, as well as everything you need for printing.  And a camera repair center.  However, some brands, such as Nikon, can only be serviced by the manufacturer.
