Every First Friday the hip, trendy Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice becomes a culinary extravaganza.

The finest gourmet food trucks in Los Angeles are curated into the First Friday event and then they are sandwiched into parking lots and parked along Abbot Kinney.  Foodies come our in droves to sample the fare of the gourmet trucks.

You have to see Abbot Kinney First Friday to get a concept of what it is like.  I honestly didn’t know there were that many food trucks in the whole city of Los Angeles.  Most of the trucks are located on the end near North Venice Blvd and they thin out a bit as you work your way to Main Street.  There are also areas with tables and benches set up for you to enjoy your eats.

First Friday also brings live entertainment, some artisan booths and the great local merchants with their unique shops stay open late.  Also, be sure to take in the murals on the sides of so many of the buildings.  This isn’t the work of graffiti artists, these are fine art murals.  To see photos of the murals and learn about them see our post and video of Daniel Wood’s Venice Street Art Tours.

If you are planning to go, come hungry and arrive early.  I arrived around 5:30 and found many of the parking lots in the area were already full.  After driving around a while I found street parking a few blocks away.

First Friday runs from 5 pm to about 10 pm.  By some accounts it starts at  6:00 but it was in full swing when I hit the Blvd at 6.

More photos after the break…  Contact us if you would like to license any of the photos in this post.
