Pull out your calendars and mark “Marina Del Rey” on December 14th 2019 and plan on making a day of it! This peaceful town on the sailboat marina is putting on a day long holiday celebration you won’t want to miss.
Note: These events have been cancelled for 2020 due to COVID-19.
It starts with the snow. Yes, snow in Southern California! Beginning at noon in Burton Chace Park the snow begins to fall. Real snow. There will be sledding and any other activity children can think of to do with the snow, face painting, arts and crafts booths and a live DJ.
This is an extremely photogenic event and you’ll want to get the best pictures you can. I collected together Amazon links to the cameras and video camera I used to photograph the boat parade. These could make a fantastic Christmas gift for the photographer in your life!
Then at 5:55 pm the Christmas fireworks show begins over the marina. But the best is yet to come! From 6:00 to 8:00 PM is the Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade. In this beautifully lit holiday parade, the sailboats and yachts parade up the main channel in Marina Del Rey decked out in their finest holiday lights and decorations.
The Marina Del Rey Holiday Boat Parade is exceptionally popular. Approximately 25,000 people view it each year. The snow is only available in Burton Chace Park. Fireworks and the holiday boat parade can be viewed from a number of spots. Popular viewing spots include Fisherman’s Village or Burton Chace Park. It can also be viewed from a water front restaurant, their balcony at home or a number of the hotel rooms on the marina. If you are booking a hotel specifically for this event, be certain to ask them if you room will have a clear view of the main channel in the Marina.

While there are several parking lots in the Marina, parking will be difficult to find. There are also a number of free transportation options within the marina. For more information, visit the Marina Del Rey Holiday Boat Parade website.
