Once you’ve finished enjoying the Santa Monica Pier, head 3 blocks east to the Third Street Promenade for a little more fun.
The Santa Monica Third Street Promenade is an upscale pedestrian mall with shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. While most of the stores are occupied by the big chain department stores like GAP, H&M, Armani and Apple, there are also small local shops and vendors working out of kiosks.
Street performers and buskers are a common sight as well and sometimes there are a LOT of them! The Third Street Promenade also hosts the largest and oldest certified organic farmer’s market every Wednesday and Saturday which is where many of the trendy restaurants in the area shop for their produce!
The Promenade has managed to blend street performers, small and unique local businesses and large upscale chair stores into a vibrant experience where everyone seems to be having a great time all the time. Keep your eyes open as you walk through it. There is also a fair amount of art and a rather unique fountain down on the southern end.
While we know you’ve probably had enough walking after strolling out on the Santa Monica Pier, you’ll thank yourself for walking another three blocks to see the Third Street Promenade. Some other places you might want to check out while you are in the area are the Original Muscle Beach right on the south side of the pier, the unique sculpture at Tongva Park, Camera Obscura on just off of the pier, and the Chess Park with its human sized chess board. We’ve recently added a post with all of the fun things to do in Santa Monica to make it easier to plan your vacation.
