The Tower Theatre is one of the many historic theatres in the Downtown Broadway Theatre District. It has also been the Newsreel Theatre and the Music Hall Downtown.
All of the grand historic old theatres in the downtown Broadway Theatre District have gone through dramatic changes in function. Perhaps none so drastic as the Rialto Theatre at 810 S. Broadway which is now an Urban Outfitters store!
The Globe Theatre is the oldest functioning theatre in the Broadway Theater District. Since its opening in 1913 it has hosted top celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Charlie Chaplin.
Not all of the grand old theatre palaces in the Los Angeles Downtown Theatre District are on Broadway. One such example is the Mayan Theatre which is located a block west at 1038 South Hill Street, just south of Olympic.
