The Ellison Murals, Venice Beach

A must see landmark tourist attraction when visiting Venice Beach are the Ellison Murals at on the Ellison Suites building.
These much larger than life murals commemorate four local icons that made it into the spotlight of the world. They were painted by the world renown artist, Jonas Never.
The first mural to be completed as of singer, songwriter Lana Del Rey. Del Rey’s five released studio albums have all charted #1 or #2 in the United States and in the top 8 in world markets. Her mural is on the south side of the building.
Sharing the south side with Del Rey is Sir John Vincent Hurt. I’m not sure if Hurt spent a portion of his career in Venice or why he is being classed as a local icon in these murals. Hurt was an English actor whose screen and stage career spanned more than 50 years. He was considered one of Britain’s finest actors.
Marilyn Monroe, whose mural is on the northwest face of the building needs no introduction. She was an American actress, model, and singer. Monroe was one of the most popular sex symbols of the 1950s. In less than a decade her films grossed over $200 million. Now, a half a century since her death she is still a pop culture icon!
Likewise, Jim Morrison needs no introduction. His mural is located on the northeast face of the building. Morrison was the lead singer of the Doors and spent much of his life in Venice. Venice is also the birthplace of the legendary rock group. Morrison is regarded as one of the most iconic and influential frontmen in rock music history.
While murals in Venice Beach are very common in Venice Beach, the Ellison Murals are considered masterpieces. The Ellison Murals are just steps off the world famous Venice Boardwalk at 15 Paloma Ave, Venice Beach.
