Venice Sign Holiday Lighting and Street Party

If you’re looking for an excuse to head out to Venice and have some fun, and who isn’t, mark December 7th 2019 on your calendar for the Venice Sign Holiday Lighting Ceremony and Block Party.  It promises to be exceptionally good fun!

Spanning across Windward Avenue at Pacific, the VENICE Sign in lights has been a defining symbol of Venice since the birth of the town.  The current Venice sign is a replica of the one originally installed in 1905 by Venice’s founder Abbot Kinney. It was restored in 2007.

Venice Sign Holiday Lighting and Block Party

The Annual Holiday Lighting of the Venice Sign is on Sat, Dec 7, 2019 from 6:15 – 9:00 PM, at the Venice Sign on Windward Avenue and Pacific Avenue. Windward Avenue and Plaza will be turned into a massive, festive block party.  Festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a free concert. The lighting of the Venice Sign is at 8:00 p.m.

A representative from the City of Venice and a special celebrity guest will pull the switch and change the Venice Sign colors to from white to red and green. Neither the name of the celebrity guest of the band at the concert have been named, but expect someone big.  Previous holiday sign lighting events featured celebrities like Matthew Modine, P!nk, Robert Downey Jr. Anjelica Huston and Robby Kreiger of The Doors. Robby Kreiger is perhaps one of the most relevant guests as Venice was the birthplace of the legendary rock group, The Doors

A section of Windward Avenue east of Pacific Avenue will be closed for on-stage entertainment and exhibits.

If you’re going, get there early and enjoy some time on the Venice Boardwalk before the festivities begin.  The crowd will be large and parking will be scarce.  See our articles on fun things to do in Venice Beach if you need ideas!
